First Swimming Lesson

Today Sydney-May had her first swimming lesson and did she like it...........well kind of she didn't scream or anything like that but she did cling to her mum and she did cry a bit but all in all she seemed to like it the lesson are in a heated pool that is only 1 meter or 3 feet deep.

She will be going every Tuesday for 10 weeks and I told Kathy by the time the lessons are over she should be use to the water and enjoying the lessons.

I think swimming lessons are important and all my girls had lessons when they were little although none of us do much swimming it is still good to learn how to swim. When my youngest sister Sandra and my brother Dave were toddlers I taught them how to swim in the family swimming pool but now days my parents no longer have a swimming pool.

  1. Hi Jo-Anne,
I totally agree, swimming lessons should be taught to all kids, the younger the better, is also the responsible thing to do.

  2. Being around the pool business for years [my husband has been in it for 35] I will agree that it is the best thing a child can learn. No gate, pool cover or alarm is going to keep them safe, only knowing how to swim will.

How old is Sydney? Is she in a class to get her used to the water or is she capable of learning to swim for her age?

I didn't watch the video only looked at the pictures but she seems young to learn the true art of keeping herself above water. I wouldn't want you to have a false sense of security with 10 lessons.

Just experience. She is adorable I have to say. I miss the kids being that little. So cute.

  3. Swimming is such an important life skill. I think too many perish every summer because they can't swim to save their lives. I absolutely agree it is something all kids should learn.

  4. I agree, it is SO important for little ones to learn to swim as soon as they can. It is a real life skill and you never know when it might be really needed.

  5. All kids should get lessons early on. The better they swim, the safer they are.

  6. Hi Mags

It really upsets me when I hear about a child drowning I do not understand how parents cannot have their child taught to swim.......if you own a pool you should not only have then taught to swim but you should follow through by having the kids swim in their own pool and not just playing in the pool if you can follow what I mean.

    Hi Skippy

Sydney is 18mths old and at this stage I think if memory serves they are getting use to the water but then will need more lessons as she gets older to help her learn how to swim. My girls had swimming lessons ever year for a number of years before the start of summer so I felt a little more at ease taking them to the pool, but I still watched them like a hawke while they were in the water.........

    Hi Jen

Yes it is so important for kids to know how to swim even more so if you own a pool.

    Hi Thisisme

I learnt to swim when I was only very little and although I do not go swimming it is something I know how to do.

    Hi Barb

So true I do not understand how some parents can not have their child learn to swim even more so if they have a pool in their backyard.

  7. I agree it is very important to start lessons very early!. My parents did not do that for us and as a result I nearly drowned when I was 11 years old.

  8. Hi Joanne

That is terrible about you nearly drowning I think too many people only have one lot of lessons for young children and they need to have them each year for a while till they really know how to swim
